In keeping with doing what’s best for the patient and the community, in a continued effort to stop the spread, we are offering COVID-19 testing for the community when the testing is related to travel.
Recently, health insurance started charging patients for these types of visits. We will offer testing to anyone who needs it for travel, even if they are not an established patient with us.
Patients can call to schedule a visit for testing and will be charged a flat fee for the test, at a discounted rate from other local testing sites. The cost of this test includes the phone call for results and access to a provider if the test is positive. They will also have the ability to schedule an appointment time so there’s little to no waiting time compared to the local free sites. Same day testing with same day results will be available, 7 days a week. The test used is a rapid PCR or molecular test, which satisfies the testing requirements for travel. Patients who test positive on the test will be called for a phone visit by a provider to review the results and discuss the appropriate next steps.
Additionally, we can now test family members of our patients when there is an exposure to COVID-19. For COVID exposure or symptoms, we will still be doing telemedicine visits, which gives patients access to our providers who will counsel the patient and family members on their individual risk based on symptoms or exposure. A thorough discussion and review of each patient’s individual scenario will allow the provider to order testing at an appropriate, optimal time for the most accurate results, leading to a lesser chance of testing too soon which gives a false sense of security. Additionally, for exposure visits, the provider will review the most up to date criteria for quarantine and the risks associated with each option.
If the telemedicine visit is related to COVID-19 symptoms or exposure, there is no copay. The cost to your insurance is the cost of the test, which is consistent with other healthcare facilities in the area.
Middleton Family Medicine offers by appointment only testing from 9 AM to 5 PM on Monday through Friday, with weekend testing hours available by appointment from 8 AM to 12 pm.
